i gotta call, but i read your letters
always seem to make me feel better
and i’ve offered you many things
like pompous flesh and fortune rings

walk a while with the shoes of grace
you look so good these days
what does a body have to do
to get theirs right next to you

and ya ask me for the meaning to life
and i must abide

the only meaning to this life is to live it
and live it as well as you’d like

and i’d like to see you today
i’d like to walk a while with you
and i don’t care what your good book says
i want to lie naked with you

days go by just like we’ve lost them
seems absurd to have to work them
you know i don’t want to have to
seems so uncomplimentary to me

and ya know i’ve got better things to do
like spend more time with you
scratch my ass or take a luxury cruise
anything else, other than punch the clock of blues

and ya ask me for the meaning to life
and i feel i must abide
